Going ashore: A measure of sure footing and balance is required to go ashore, safety vest is required by Coast Guard regulation. The shore is rocky and water drops deep abruptly. No sandy beach for landing. To step on shore, one needs to keep an eye on the coming waves in the bouncing skiff, ready to get your shoes wet.....Only die heart photographers are on this trip.
Machias Seal Island: 12 miles off the coast of Maine is a 15 square miles rocky uninhabited island claimed by both Canada and United States. It is also referred to in Canada as Machias Seal Island, New Brunswick, Canada, in the Bay of Fungy.
