  • I was here last October trying to catch the Apostle Islands Cruise to shoot landscape of red cliffs and fall colors, unfortunately, the cruises were cancelled due to 6 feet waves, gusty winds and lashing rainstorm. Well, this time as I got here in early March, I could drive over to the Island by car, and Bayfield was holding a "Winter on Ice Festival" out on the icy surface of Lake Superior. I didn't have time for the event, but I have a few unexpected ice-scapes before the town woke up....
  • Activities already on the Lake as I drove out early before dawn...a few driving rules to follow when conditions permissible to drive on ice:<br /> Unbuckle seat belt,<br /> Unlock car door, and<br /> Drive below 10 miles per hour (over 10 miles per hour would lock your door automatically).
  • Apostle Islands Cruises pier...now you can walk out and look back at the boat from the lake.

  • Lake Superior Spearfishing: Fishing over ice surface is customarily in two ways, one is by cutting a large opening and thrashing a spear down at the fish, and the other is by drilling a small hole to fish by hook. Image shows cutting of an ice slab in progress....
