  • The Glen Canyon Dam at 710 feet ranks third in height behind the highest 728 feet Hoover Dam in the neighborhood of Las Vegas. It has a power capacity of 1,300 Megawatts, the equivalent of a large nuclear plant, currently running at half capacity because of drought and water shortage in the west. Waters of the Colorado River and tributaries are backed up about 185 miles by the Dam, forming Lake Powell.
