  • Hey, what is happening? "Mom" took away the fish from "Dad" and flew off to the other side of the lake while the chick was looking on and calling ....or "crying?"<br />
Why? <br />
Could it be because "Mom", having learned from previous years' of experience in raising the youngs, knows this is a way of forcing the chicks to start learning to fly and find food for themselves? This teaching act would not have been possibly observed without the collapse of the nest.
  • Meanwhile, the second chick, who managed to hop to a branch 100 feet away from the nest was apparently in distress, seemingly afraid to fly back to join the other chick and "dad" by the nest. <br />
Apparently waiting for a head wind to pick up before taking off flying as she has learned when practicing in the nest.
  • Is there wind yet?
  • Wind anywhere? Still feeling around in the perch...
  • Yes, in the day's morning sun, then wind comes.
  • Wow...way I go!
  • Wings are a bit wobbling, but I am FLYING!
