The male has returned and was spotted on 9/4/12 on a branch further in the woods. He was calling to the female in the image. Do you see the dark ring around his eye, that's how one can tell from a distance that he is the male. The female is larger and has a clean look. The female lost the old mate the year before after he was accidentally electrocuted in a gusty rainy day when he flew in with a big fish and had to rest on top of a transformer pole on the way back to the nest. The female picked up this new partner (the one with a dark ring around the eye) four days later to help feeding her two eaglets that had not yet fledged. Together, they also produced this past Spring, however, the eggs failed to mature probably due to predators. They left early for the north and come back till now. Hope this coming Fall they will successfully reproduce agian..
