  • While Upper Canyon Tour starts from Page riding in trucks, the Lower Canyon Tour requires visitors driving themselves to the canyon about 4 miles away. After paying admission fee, guided tour proceeds to the entrance not far from the parking lot. Here one sees rugged terrain with below ground cracks more than hundred feet drop to canyon floor. From the surface, the slotted canyon appears as a slash in the mesa. This is the reason why the area is open only to visitors with authorized local guides.
  • Unlike the Upper Canyon, the Lower Canyon has narrow, rocky and dark walking path. There is no light beam penetrating from above or sand throwing by tour guide. A tripod would be helpful if you want to be creative in your photography, but then you have to consider negotiating all that climbing carrying a load of camera, tripod, gadget bag, and some drink. So you have a choice of either enjoying the trip hand free or sweating like I did.
